Illuminating the Engine: A Comprehensive Guide to Spark Plugs

Image
What is a Spark Plug? Spark Plug  is a device that is used to ignite the air-fuel mixture in the engine cylinder of an internal combustion engine. They are generally used in petrol engines or engine that runs on Natural gas. For the combustion of the fuel, we need a spark to initiate the combustion process in a gasoline engine ( Petrol engine ). A good spark plug produces sparks at the correct timing making the combustion of air-fuel mixture efficient and this improves the working of our vehicle. Requirements of a Good Spark Plug It must be reliable at high voltage transmission i.e. up to 40,000 V. It must have good insulation capability even at temperatures of 1000 degree Celsius, and prevent arcing and flashover. It must possess resistance to thermal shock (Hot exhaust gases-cold intake mixtures) It must make pressure-tight and gas-tight sealing with the combustion chamber. It must be capable to resist oscillating pressures up to approx. 100 bar. It should have high mechanical st...

Unraveling the Mystery of Battery Ignition Systems: A Comprehensive Guide

Image
What is Battery Ignition System?  Battery Ignition System is used in automobiles to produce a spark in the spark plug for the combustion of fuel in the I.C. engine. Here, the main source of spark generation is the battery. It is mostly used in light commercial vehicles. Almost in every petrol engine, the spark is required to burn the fuel in the Engine. Thus an ignition system is always there in petrol or gasoline engines for spark generation. There are different ignition systems such as a magneto ignition system , distributorless ignition system , and electronic ignition system . Here we will discuss one of the ignition systems. So let’s get started. Main Parts of Battery Ignition The main parts of the battery ignition system are 1. Battery 2. Ignition switch 3. Ballast resistor 4. Ignition Coil 5. Contact breaker 6. Capacitor 7. Distributor 8. Spark plug Let’s discuss the function of each component in detail: 1. Battery It is a device that provides electrical ...
